As a yoga teacher, I often get asked how to take one’s practice to the next level.
While there are many paths to deepening your yoga practice, here are a few insights that have helped me and my students along the way:
- Consistency is key: Like any skill, yoga takes practice. Show up on your mat regularly, even if it’s just for a few minutes a day. Over time, you’ll notice improvements in your strength, flexibility, and mental focus.
- Challenge yourself, but listen to your body: It’s important to challenge yourself in your practice, but not at the expense of your safety or well-being. Listen to your body and honour its limitations. It’s okay to modify or skip certain poses if they don’t feel right for you.
- Focus on your breath: The breath is the foundation of any yoga practice. By bringing awareness to your breath and syncing it with your bodies movements, you’ll cultivate a sense of calm and centeredness that can deepen your practice.
- Get curious: Explore new poses, and experiment with different ways of moving your body. This sense of curiosity and exploration can help you stay engaged and motivated in your practice.
Remember, yoga is a lifelong journey, not a destination. By staying curious, consistent, and mindful, you can deepen your practice and reap the many benefits that yoga has to offer. I look forward to seeing you on the mat this week.
